Summer

Hi Guys,

Hope everything is going well with you and your families. We had a great spring but it was cut short by a couple of weeks, due to the HOT weather. It has warmed up to so much that Lake Champlain surface temperature is already 70 degrees which is more like July. One good thing about it being so warm, is most Bass are past the post spawn. This coming weekend is the opening of Bass season, to keep fish, and there are going to be a lot of tournaments on the big lake. I never could understand why N.Y. opens the Bass season I week earlier than the rest of NY. , when we are so far north??!! It really should be 1 week later to protect the spawn. Anyway, look at these photos from this month, we caught and released hundreds of Bass with many in the 3-5 pound plus range. We also caught Pike, Walleye, Lake Trout and also some Salmon and Brown Trout. The catfish and Gar you see here were caught by Mike from St Augustine Florida. The Lake Trout fishing has already been great this year with an average of over 20 a boat, a day, with some bonus Landlocks and Browns too!!!

Summer Ahead

As I mentioned, most Bass are already past post spawn and are now feeding again. The next month or so we'll be catching them along the shorelines in less than 10 feet of water using jigs, ned rigs, senkos, swim baits, jerkbaits and my favorite "TOPWATER". After that the Bass and the Pike spread out and head for the deeper weed beds and structure, and remain there until the water temperatures start to cool, which recently has been lake September, early October. Lake Trout remain good right thru the summer, besides trolling , we also jig for them in the summer, in certain areas, we troll and jig for lakers, we also deepwater fish for Smallies, ALL IN ONE DAY" , which is really fun!!! For all you guys who are fishing with us this summer, you might want to try it. If you do, let us know ahead of time so we can set it up for you. Our Lake, "Long Pond, has great fishing all summer, but as like most lakes in the summer months, the best activity is the early morning and late evening. If you like to trout fish, we have many trout streams near us. Our bigger rivers are the Ausable, Boquet, Saranac and also hundreds of smaller streams loaded with Brown, Brook and Rainbow Trout!!! What is really nice is NO CROWDS, and you don't need a guide. If you use our lodging and meals packages you get the use of rowboats on our lake and directions to the trout streams near by!! Can't beat that.

NEXT UPDATE

The next update won't be until sometime in September. I finally had surgery on my right shoulder (and I'm right handed) Thursday June 13th. . I will be out of commission for 8 to 10 weeks. I will definitely be ready to start fishing again. Usually in the July/August update I mention the fall fishing coming up, just as a reminder. Spring is the top fishing time of the year and the fall is the second. In the fall you don't catch as many fish BUT the fish are much bigger !!! and that goes for almost all species we have here. As soon as the water starts the fish start feeding again for the winter.

Well guys I guess that's it for now, have a great summer and hope to see you in the soon!!!

Pete
