October
Hi Guys,
here`s hoping everything is good with you. Everything here is good and quiet, very little cases of the virus.
The fishing these past couple of weeks has also been quiet. The weather continues to be unpredictable as it seems to be all over the world?! A little over a week ago Lake Champlain`s surface temperature was 70 degrees, then we had a couple of days where the air temps were in the 50`s with heavy winds, and it brought the lake`s temperature down to 58 degrees?! That`s within a few days?! As you know, fish are cold blooded and it takes a while for their system to get adjusted to a sudden rise or fall in the water temperature, so, they basically go dormant. If it is a degree or so, it really doesn`t affect them too much, but "10 degrees" will really put them down for a while. Really, the only way you catch them then is by using finesse baits such as tube jigs, Ned rigs, and drop shot worked very slow. This way, the fish, which are laying on the bottom, can easily pick up the bait without expending any energy to chase it. Almost all these recent photos of the smallmouths you see here, were caught on finesse baits worked slow. Right now, we are in a 3 day stretch of "80 degree" weather?! But, after this, it looks like seasonable weather is coming, can`t wait. I am so glad that most of you guys listened to me and are coming a little later this year cause I think you are going to hit it just right! Right now, except for a few dates early week (Mon-Wed) all of October is booked! We do have a few dates in early Nov still open but I`m sure they will book up fast. It really is amazing how the climate is changing so fast? Not that long ago the bass and pike fishing was over right after Columbus Day, now, it really doesn`t start until then, "Amazing" ?! Since it is harder to predict the weather now, all you guys who are coming this fall, you might as well "bring it all". from top water to bottom stuff. Might as well cover all the bases, right?!
Well guys, I guess that`s it for now. You guys who are coming up to fish with us, you know the drill: If you are not feeling well, or have a fever, or have been with someone who has tested positive recently, don`t come. If you are Good, bring that mask and lets go fishing, "Winter is Coming"!!
Bye for now and stay safe
